EMG and Nerve Conduction Studies
Short for electromyography, an EMG is a very common diagnostic test used to help solve issues with pain, numbness, tingling or weakness. An EMG helps the doctor determine if a nerve or nerves are contributing to or causing a problem. An EMG allows the doctor to listen to the body’s natural electrical activity created by moving muscles.
Nerve Conduction Studies
A nerve conduction study is used for similar purposes. In this common office procedure, the doctor uses a needle to send small electrical impulses to a nerve, causing it to fire, in order to record the response. All of these findings help the doctor solve the puzzle, diagnose your pain and find the best way to eliminate it.
